Door staff
Scan a pass at the door
Before you scan
- Sign in on your organization's QueueKat site. Staff access belongs to the organization; Staff, Admin and Owner members can operate its events.
- Open Staff, choose the event you are working, then open Scanner. Check the event page name at the top before scanning. Scanning is available only while the event is admitting people.
- Tap Start camera and allow camera access when your browser asks. The camera requires HTTPS; every pass check, QR or typed, requires a live connection.
Focus mode uses a full-screen scanner and can start the camera when it opens. The scanner requests the rear-facing camera when one is available. Use Camera settings & help for the camera controls and current camera message.
Scan a pass
- Hold the attendee's QR code steady inside the camera frame. Wait for Checking pass and then read the result. Confirmed admissions and refusals stay on screen until you choose Next scan; a lapsed pass waits for a staff decision.
- If the camera cannot read the pass, enter its 12-digit code in Or type the 12-digit code and tap Check code. Spaces and dashes are ignored.
- After Let them in appears, the server has recorded admission. Tap Next scan before checking the next attendee.
What the scanner reports
- Let them in — admission was confirmed and recorded.
- Code already used — this pass has already been used for admission.
- We don't recognise this code — check that you opened the right event and ask the attendee to show their latest pass. A cancelled or withdrawn pass cannot be used.
- That code has a typo — check all 12 digits and try again.
- Code could not be verified — stop and ask an organizer to check it.
- Not called to the door — ask an organizer to check the attendee's booking.
- Decision needed / Pass lapsed — the pass's arrival deadline passed and its place was released. This is a warning, not an automatic admission or refusal.
- Event closed or Staff access changed — scanning is stopped for the event or your account. Contact an organizer; there is no scanner override.
What staff may decide
For a lapsed pass only, staff with access to operate the event may choose Let them in anyway and then Confirm and next scan, or choose Do not admit and confirm. The server checks the pass and event again before recording an admission. Use the attendee list or ask an organizer when a result is unclear. Do not override Code already used, an unrecognized code, a closed event, or lost staff access.
The camera only reads the QR code; it does not decide whether the pass is valid. Both QR scans and typed codes need a live connection. Offline admission, device snapshots and later synchronization are not available.
If something goes wrong
- Camera blocked: in your browser's site settings, allow camera access for your organization's QueueKat site, return to Scanner and tap Start camera.
- No camera or camera in use: check that the device has a camera and close any other app using it. You can type the code instead.
- Code won't read: keep the code in the frame and hold it steady. If it is displayed on a phone, ask the attendee to raise screen brightness; otherwise use the typed code.
- Connection lost: wait for the scanner to reconnect. It cannot validate a pass while offline. If the connection drops during a check, Admission not confirmed means the outcome is uncertain: open the attendee list and check the entry before scanning again. Reconnection alone does not confirm whether admission was recorded.
- Event closed or access changed: stop scanning and contact an organizer.
Browser and camera notes
The QR reader uses the browser's native detector when available and includes a bundled fallback for browsers without it, including Safari and Firefox. Camera access still depends on the browser, device, permissions and HTTPS. There is no version-specific browser support list; check the actual phone and browser you will use before doors open.
